Autumn/Winter2010
The Elena Garcia Atelier presents its AW10 collection this season at London Fashion Week and Nolcha Fashion Week in New York. The new collection is inspired by decadent opium dens, the 1920's influence of japonica and chinoisserie and the film The Last Emperor.
The designer's key shapes for this capsule collection are loose satin dresses and tops, fastened and adjusted with rows of ribbons, defining the silhouette without restraining it, taking us back to an era of glamour and subtle elegance.
This season we have focused on a mid-weight satin in vibrant shades of dark aubergine and coral red. The Shibori garments have hints of golden yellow to highlight the plums and reds in the right places. We have included some items made in recycled crinkle silk, like the cuffs, collar, wraps and scarves.
In terms of embellishments, we have used our delicate satin cutwork on chiffon and applied it to necklines, hems, and breast panels. Our stitch-felting is used to emphasize the waist of a beautiful evening floor-length gown. We have collaborated with textile artist Ilya Fisher to apply pleating and Shibori dyeing to a few of our pieces, injecting colours to a pre-pleated area of textiles and then dyeing the entire garment in aubergine to achieve a striking result.
